Self Worth

My last entry was all about self care. We discussed the negative repercussions of not having time to relieve stress. This time, we are talking about something even more important… Self Worth.

The world we live in is fast paced and full throttle. Everybody is connected at lightning speed to everyone else. The web is bursting with pictures of beautiful, successful people and stories of luxurious and exciting lives. In an age when everyone can be weighed and measured on a global scale, we can wind up feeling like we fall a little short of the mark. We already talked about how easy it is for a practitioner of spiritualism to become emotionally sensitive or depressed. The age of technology and social media only increases that obstacle.

Stop. You are perfectly you. In fact, you are the most perfect you that has ever existed. We are all connected and we are all here as an extension of the one, and the creator life force specifically designed you as one of the forms it wanted to take. You were tailor made to experience your life in a way that only you can experience it. There will be pain. There will be failures. There will be regret. But that is all part of the story of your life. Have you ever read a good book that had no conflict, no obstacles, no drama what so ever? Life is about experiences and you can\’t have experiences without some bad experiences. You can\’t learn without messing up and sometimes being a hot mess.

From a scientifically factual standpoint, your body is host to billions of bacteria, germs, and other microorganisms. They will live, reproduce, and die… generation after generation on and in your body. Gross, I know, but follow with me for a second. To those life forms, you are God. You are the universe. You are the infinite unknown. The world isn\’t perfect. There are many things that I would love to see changed, but in the end I don\’t blame nature. I don\’t blame the gods for the troubles of the world. Instead I thank them for their beautiful, miraculous, awe-inspiring creations. I thank them for deciding, not only, that I am worthy of incarnation, but that I am exactly the way they thought I should be. Just like nature and the Gods are beyond my judgement, you are beyond the judgement of the biomes within you. To them, you are perfection beyond questioning.

Now, I know that sounds stupid, but I wanted you to think about perspective for a second. Nature repeats itself like a fractal. You really are God to those living things. And, looking to the other direction, when you think about the original source of creation, your failures or shortcomings are so disgustingly insignificant. If you\’re like me, you beat yourself up about every little awkward moment that you didn\’t know how to person and said something stupid. It\’s even worse when it\’s actually something worth feeling bad about. Regret sucks. Self consciousness sucks. But you are dust. You are a sentient spec in the cosmos, alight for but an instant, and then flickered out. Whatever you hate about yourself, whatever makes you feel small and worthless… You are no more small and worthless than every other human. You are a beautiful burst of light in a sea of nothingness and the modern troubles of \”not pretty enough\” or \”not smart enough\” or \”living in mom\’s basement\” are nothing. You are the only you. We are here for such a brief moment and in the firework show that is humanity, only you can shine in your specific color so don\’t let your color be missing. Shine bright. Forgive yourself. Love yourself. I love you. We love you. I want to hear your firework side by side with mine and I want to see you succeed right along side me.

Moral of the story, you will fail and make mistakes and have regrets and be inadequate by some standard … Just like everybody else. We are all just dust so don\’t get hung up on the little things. Life is too short to spend it being your own enemy. You are a blip but you are also a God or Goddess. Shine bright. Love yourself. Make each day your own. I believe in you. Bye bye, now.
