Guided Spell: Warming/ Cooling Self

I\’ve talked about a lot of things so far from a very broad overview stand point. Hopefully, I\’ve successfully conveyed a good foundation of fundamental magickal concepts that you can use to experiment and grow your craft. But you want something crunchy, don\’t you? Something formulaic that you can follow the steps without much creativity and just \”A, B, C\” your way through it.

Okay. You win. Here ya\’ go. It\’s nothing flashy, but here is a simple, beginner spell that you can do with a little practice that actually gives you a benefit in your daily life. This is a spell that you can use to warm yourself up in an environment that\’s too cold or to cool yourself off if you\’re in the heat. This does not replace sunscreen or a winter coat. This is not defense against sun stroke. Please respect the elements and don\’t put yourself in needlessly dangerous situations. That being said, this can definitely make you more comfortable and could possibly help you in a life threatening situation if no other means of protection or shelter are available.

First, call your core. The more you do this spell, the less you will need to call your core but for now, you should do it. Once your energy is present, you\’re going to push the energy out, but unlike the protection spell from earlier, this time the energy will travel up through your head and out your crown.

Depending on if you are trying to cool yourself off or warm yourself up, you will adjust this accordingly. If you are cooling yourself off, visualize a thick glacier around you. You are frozen in the center of a massive chunk of ice. Think about the last time you had really cold ice cream. Think about that slushier that gave you brain-freeze. Think about turning the shower on but you forgot to let the water warm up and you get blasted with ice cold water. Remember being caught out in the rain, the cold water soaking you from head to toe, running down your body, through your clothes. Now push the energy out through your crown and into the ice. Let the energy pass down the ice, along your skin. It feels like that cold rain, washing away every bit of heat in your skin. Now think about being outside in the snow. The wind is blowing, your gloves have soaked through. Your face is chapped. The cold is biting and relentless. You pass under an awning of a building and a drift of snow falls off. The snow falls down your neck and into your shirt. Keep pushing the energy over you.

If instead you are trying to warm yourself up, call your core and push your energy out through your shoulders and upper arms. Visualize metal being forged. It\’s glowing orange. The metal is thrust into a blazing kiln ( if you don\’t know what a little ln is, picture a big, roaring fireplace ). The metal begins to crack, revealing white hot steel beneath. You can feel the heat coming off of the kiln like a wall pushing against you. Push the energy out through your shoulders but, as it comes out, it ignites. The fire is burning around your shoulders. Think back to a time when you touched a hot surface. Were you cooking with a flat grill and touched the surface? Were you taking something out of the oven? Maybe you leaned against the hot metal surface of a car in the summer sun. The energy oozing out through your shoulders turns to lava, slowly pouring down your back and arms. Your skin sizzles and burns at the touch. The lava flows in unnatural ways, touching every inch of your skin, encompassing you in fiery embers. No wind can reach you. Now water can extinguish you. You are lava. You are the sun.

That\’s it. Those two variations can help you out in situations of extreme temperatures. Remember, this is no replacement for common sense and safe practices. If it doesn\’t work the first time, don\’t be discouraged. Practice your visualizations. Practice recalling memories with vivid details. You will need a powerful will to get this on the first try but, with practice, anyone can make it work.
