Magick in the Kitchen

So you may have noticed I keep using the term \”herbs\” when I\’m talking about plants used for Magick. Herbs are just one section of the countless plants that can be used for magickal purposes, however it\’s the most commonly used term when referring to magickal plants.

In the early onset of modern magick, open practice of witchcraft was still extremely taboo. It wouldn\’t get you burned at the stake, but it would get you ostracized from the rest of society. You would become unhireable. Friends would part ways from you. It was a bad scene overall. So, as you could imagine, these early modern witches couldn\’t just run to their local metaphysics shop or order patchouli from Amazon. They had to be crafty, cunning, and resourceful.

Believe it or not many of the items found in your spice cabinet can be used as ingredients for magickal workings. Early modern witches became adept at knowing how to use what they had on hand, and so \”herbs\” became the go-to term for magickal botanicals.

Thyme: This is an especially potent healing herb. It can be used in spells for healing, lasting health, and medical protection.

Rosemary: This herb is used in many love spells. It is also useful for purification, making it an ideal choice for more devotion-based love spells.

Sage: Sage is useful for removing negativity, encouraging peace, and helping process grief. It is a fine addition to closure based Magick.

Mint: Mint is a very potent healing herb and is especially good at reinvigorating through Magick. It can be used in spells for recharging or recouperating, though it is counteractive if used in meditation rituals.

Oregano: This herb is strong when used for luck or prosperity. It can be used for tranquility and even for psychic visions. It can be a difficult herb to work with, but once you have gained experience with it\’s unique vibrations, it can be a surprisingly powerful tool.

Black Pepper: While this isn\’t an herb, it\’s something nearly everyone has in their kitchen. Black Pepper is a warrior\’s tool. I say this because it is extremely potent for exorcisms and banishings. It can also be powerful when used for ridding harmful energy and hexes. On the flip side, black pepper is effective at sending out hexes as well. I would never recommend using Magick to harm others, but black pepper would be a good first ingredient in any hex bag.
